Who is Francis W. Layton

Mr. Layton was a member of Armstrong Lodge No. 26 of Newport, Delaware. He became a resident of the Masonic Home in 1988. Shortly after his arrival he became the adopted Grandfather to Bethel No. 13. It was because of the wonderful relationship he had with the Daughters and adults of this Bethel that he decided to will the majority of his estate to establish this scholarship fund.

He enjoyed their meetings and activities until ill health made it impossible for him to attend. He particularly liked what the Order stands for and the lessons that it teaches.

Not only are the academic standards important to what he wanted in this scholarship requirement, but he also believed in high morals, integrity and fortitude.

We benefited greatly by his sense of humor, his words of encouragement and his presence. He touched our lives and we were fortunate to have known him.

Mr. Layton passed away in March 1994 and Daughters of Delaware Bethels will benefit from his generosity for years to come.

With Job's love
